Re: New york
Supplementary question here.

A few people have said 'go and see a Broadway show'.

Had a look and an awful lot seem to be the same as ones on in London.

Is there any additional value going to one there that you could see here, or is it just to be able to tick 'seen a show on Broadway' off the list?

Re: New york
Get one of them tourist pass things. Sometimes you get to walk right to the front of queues for things and the entrance staff (who often seem to not give a shit) wave you thru. On top of saving a bit of money of course.

Get a boat round Manhattan. Went last month and our guide literally did not stop talking the whole 3hrs we were on there, there's just so much history etc to talk about.

Walking over the Brooklyn bridge is a pain in the arse as its chocka full of people trying to get selfies and generally not looking where they're going (bare in mind its also used by the public many of which are cyclists). The Manhattan bridge on the other hand was almost empty and the views are just as good.

Get the subway. Taxis/uber won't necessarily rip you off but there's so much traffic there's not really much point. Think about how dumb it'd be to pick driving over the tube in central London.

Coney island could be worth a visit. Make sure you check luna park is open though.

Oh and check out something called THE RIDE. Its a bit camp and typical American OTT but its an hour of good clean fun and really worth doing. Kind of like an interactive bus tour. Hard to explain, just look it up yourself.

Also beer ain't that expensive. Anyone who says it is is a spaz.

Enjoy

MOMA I think reopens after the 21st. I’d imagine after the remodel it’s going to be very busy for the next few weeks.

Norman - beware, Jan and Feb is when the East Coast is usually under several feet of snow. They’re pretty good at dealing with it, but I’ve had flights cancelled before.

It will also be fucking freezing - was -22 degrees C when I was in NY a couple of February’s ago

We stayed at the newly opened Moxy hotel on 6th and 36th in 2017. Great place with a terrific atmosphere and will definitely stay there again next time. Not far ftom Penn station which was handy as we popped down to Philly the next day for the ice hockey

If you dare leave your children on their own for an evening, try Tribeca Grill; owned by Robert de Niro.

Boston is a terrific city. Personally I prefer it to New York. That being said, if you haven’t got much time then you’d be better off staying in one city and doing that properly

Probably going to do New York in January for 4 or 5 days. Thinking of adding Boston on for a couple of days. Do people reckon it worth doing Boston? Would get the train to Boston and fly home from there

Re: New york
When I’ve been out there for work I always go to the Da Marino restaurant nears Times Square.

It’s like going back in time to an old school New York / Italian restaurant with live music every night.

The regular pianist has no eyes and is a fantastic musician. This is bizarre but I got talking to him one night when he was leaving and he heard my accent. It was the strangest conversation ever as this guy knew more about sport then anyone I’ve met. He could talk run rates in every form of cricket, and could probably tell about every English football team, from what league they were in, every player and how they play. He must listen to these games because as I say he is completely blind, as you would expect with no eyes.

Would highly recommend you pay a visit. Even if you don’t eat in there, just sit at the bar with a beer to soak up the atmosphere. You’ll also see photos on the wall of all the famous people who have used the place over the years, people like Bono, Rod Stewart and the actors from Friends.

Why would anyone want to go to an English bar while visiting New York for 5 days?

I’d understand if going for 5 months.. fucking hell.
